For People Who Just Love Jazz
July 9 – 17, 2013
For a truly memorable vacation, join us for a week of great jazz, cultural visits, and fine dining on the spectacular French Riviera.
This legendary strip of Mediterranean coastline hosts two prestigious jazz festivals, Nice Jazz Festival and Jazz à Juan Festival. The first jazz festival in France took place in Nice in 1948. Jazz à Juan, founded in 1960, is the oldest continuously-running jazz festival in Europe. Both credit their birth to the early American rail and oil tycoons who built extravagant villas on the neighboring Cap d’Antibes peninsula in the early 1920s and brought with them their love of jazz music. Each year, these two festivals offer a stellar line-up of world-renowned jazz musicians.
The 9 day/7 night tour provides plenty of time to soak up great jazz music. A two-day pass to the Nice Jazz Festival and Preferential Seating at two performances on the famous Pinède Gould stage of Jazz à Juan are included. In addition, both festivals feature free day-time concerts by burgeoning jazz talent. Also included is a conversation with a French jazz musician to be enjoyed over a glass of wine in the exclusive back stage area of the Pinède Gould, overlooking the Mediterranean.
During day-time excursions, discover the sounds, sights, tastes, and aromas of Provence and the Riviera: perched hilltop villages and the great cities of Nice, Aix-en-Provence, and Antibes; world-class museums; Mediterranean islands; covered markets; fine wine and dining; an optional cooking class; and, of course, time on the beach! This area has been attracting vacationers for centuries thanks to its mild year-round temperatures, breathtaking scenery, beautiful beaches, and gorgeous people!
A professional and bi-lingual Tour Manager will accompany you to handle all logistics, leaving you free to fully enjoy your surroundings. Licensed Tour Guides will guide you through the history and neighborhoods of the old cities. You’ll stay in Superior/Deluxe Category rooms at First Class hotels located next to the festival sites.
