Accompanied by New Orleans jazz musician Matt Lemmler!
For People Who Just Love Jazz
July 8 – 16, 2014
We are proud to partner with New Orleans WWOZ 90.7 FM Radio to offer a week of great jazz, cultural visits, and fine dining on the legendary strip of Mediterranean coast known as the French Riviera, accompanied by New Orleans jazz musician Matt Lemmler (click for more)Matt Lemmler (click to minimize)
Hurricane Katrina brought devastation to his city and his life and lead to exile in Houston for some time. In 2010, Matt’s work, “A Tribute to New Orleans” Jazz Mass at Trinity Church in Houston, TX., birthed The New Orleans Jazz Revival Band and the prodigal son was finally back home in the city of his birth. The title of the band’s recent CD – UBUNTU – refers to the humanist philosophy originating in Africa and also speaks to Matt’s belief that music not only heals but allows our passion and spirit to soar. www.MattLemmler.com
France was introduced to jazz as early as WWI by Jim Europe’s 369th “Hellfighter’s“ Band. In the years following World War II, a number of jazz musicians such as Dexter Gordon, Bud Powell, Kenny Clarke, Sidney Bechet, and Don Byas took up residence in France, inspired by the relative lack of racism and the appreciation French audiences showed for their art.
