BUDAPEST
The International Choir Competition and Festival in Budapest is the most long-standing event in the MUSICA MUNDI series. Various levels of difficulty are included within the different competition categories, so that each choir can perform choral literature appropriate to its artistic standard. The main focus is on the categories chamber choirs, children's and youth choirs and folklore. It's an opportunity to experience unique musical encounters in some of the Hungarian capital's most famous concert halls (including the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and the Palace of Arts).
VENICE
Venezia in Musica in April/May 2011 combines the attractions of an international choir competition with the excellent concert opportunities to be enjoyed in one of Europe's most important musical metropolises. With a broad range of categories and difficulty levels, choir casts and musical genres, the competition offers something for every choir. In addition to categories for all kinds of choirs, folklore and sacred choral music also play a central role. The festival features open-air encounter concerts on vibrant city squares and in beautiful churches. You are cordially invited to come to the lagoon city with your choir and to sing alongside other choirs in front of a unique backdrop.
ROME
2011 sees another MUSICA MUNDI event, with the main focus on the various categories of sacred choral music, taking place in Rome for the third time. Thousands of people and amateur choirs from all over the world will meet up in peace and friendship and sing and play music together in the wonderful churches and picturesque squares of the city centre. True to the established tradition of competition performances and evening concerts in Rome's impressive churches, as well as official celebrations such as mass in St. Peter's Basilica, this festival in the eternal city is an event which facilitates not only the artistic comparison of choirs, but also promotes musical and spiritual togetherness.
LINZ
Following the successful launch of this new MUSICA MUNDI choir competition in 2007, the next edition takes place next year. The opening ceremony will be held in Austria's second largest cathedral. The highlight of the event will be the competition for the Anton Bruckner Choir Prize. The gala concerts will take place in the splendid baroque church, the Augustiner Chorherrenstift St. Florian, where the famous composer worked for much of his life. Choirs may also avail of the opportunity to take part in the festival without participating in competition and to perform in encounter concerts with other choirs from different nations.
WERNIGERODE
Experience five days that run the gamut of international choral music, from the parade of choirs through the mediaeval streets of Wernigerode to the festival of choirs on the historic market square of the town. For the first time in the history of the famous international Johannes Brahms Choir Competition, the 2011 festival will also feature the category of sacred choral music. Churches and picturesque squares in the surrounding towns of the scenic Harz region will provide attractive backdrops for gala and encounter concerts.
